Posted: September 7th, 2010 2:38 PM
Please accept this invitation to visit the Historic Belmont Firehouse, located at 900 SE 35th Avenue (at Belmont), Portland on September 11th, from 7 a.m to 7 p.m.
The firehouse will open its doors to visitors who wish to reflect on the events of September 11, 2001.
A unique feature of the firehouse is a bronze sculpture named "Strength of America." The statue represents, and lists the names of, the service providers who lost their lives in the attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. The memorial contains 570 names of firefighters, police officers, Port Authority officers, emergency medical workers, Army personnel, and Navy personnel. It is intended to honor those who placed service before self on that day.
There will be no ceremonies or speakers. This is an opportunity for guests to reflect on this event in whatever way they choose. The public is invited as well as service professionals who may feel a connection to that day.
Coffee will be served and quiet areas will be provided.
