Shot fired during Southeast Portland bank robbery; suspects at large
Portland, OR -- Portland police are investigating an armed bank robbery today at a U.S. Bank branch on Southeast Woodstock Boulevard and 48th Avenue.
A shot was fired during the robbery but no one was injured. The suspects remain at large this afternoon.
Share Lt. Kelli Sheffer, a Portland police spokeswoman, said two people entered the bank about 11:30 a.m. One fired a shot into the ceiling and then they robbed the bank. The pair escaped through the north entrance to the building and took off.
Portland police borrowed a ladder from the Portland Fire & Rescue so they could collect the bullet from the ceiling, Sheffer said.
She said the suspects were wearing "theatrical type masks" that were black with white around the mouth. They were both wearing gray hoodies.
Sheffer said armed bank robberies in which a robber fires a weapon are rare in Portland.
"It's pretty bold to come in and do that," she said.
Anyone with information about the robbery is asked to call Detective Tony Christensen at 503-224-4181.
