Open House at Portland Fire & Rescue's Station One

Posted: September 24th, 2010 8:29 AM

Portland Fire & Rescue invites you to an Open House, celebrating the return of personnel and equipment to Station One.

Public and media are invited to tour the station and administrative offices, located at 55 SW Ash Street, between noon and 2:30, September 28, 2010.  The celebration will begin at 11:30 a.m. with opening remarks from Fire Commissioner Randy Leonard, Fire Chief John Klum, and station Captain Dan Buckner.  Lee's Association Dragon & Lion Dance Team will perform and the Fireboat David Campbell will provide a water display.

Firefighters will demonstrate some of the specialty team expertise housed at Station One including high-angle rope rescue techniques and dive team equipment.  Firefighters will discuss the history of Station One and displays will relate how taxpayer money, funded through a General Obligation bond, has ensured that fire stations throughout the City have been seismically upgraded.

The Red Cross will have 72-hour emergency kits available for purchase.  From noon through 1 p.m., firefighter-cooked barbeque will be available.
