Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to Residential Fire in SE Portland

Portland firefighters responded to a residential fire at 6:56 pm at 1805 SE 139th Avenue between SE Mill St. and SE Harrison Ct. The initial call to 9-1-1 indicated that a five-year-old occupant of the home lit a fire in the upstairs of the home. Upon arrival, firefighters found heavy black smoke coming from the upstairs of the 1 1/2 story structure.
A search of the home found that all occupants safely escaped the fire. Firefighters brought the fire under control at 7:15 pm. The Red Cross was called to assist an adult and five children who live in the home with temporary housing needs. A Fire Investigator is currently on scene. There is no information available about the official cause of the fire; damage is currently estimated at $20,000.
Portland Fire & Rescue reminds citizens that it is important to have a home fire escape plan and to practice it regularly with your family to ensure that everyone can escape safely in case of a fire.
