On November 13, 2010, Glen and Tiffany Boyd entered the world of wedded bliss. For most couples, registering for gifts is part of the planning process for the big day. But the Boyds had something different in mind.
"We have everything we need," Tiffany Boyd told firefighters, laughing. "We certainly didn't need another toaster." Wanting to do something for others to mark the beginning of their married life together, the Boyds came up with a plan and informed their guests accordingly.
Today, on a cold and rainy December afternoon, Glen and Tiffany warmed the hearts of Portland firefighters. The Boyds visited Portland Fire Station 15 (located at 1920 SW Spring) and donated all of their "wedding presents" – which were toys.
"Station 15 had very few toys in our Toy N Joy collection box," said Station Officer Al Bronson. "In fact, we were worried we wouldn't receive many donations at all this year. Then the Boyds showed up." Arriving in two vehicles, Glen and Tiffany worked alongside firefighters to unload over 200 toys for Portland Fire & Rescue's holiday toy drive.
"On your wedding day, you are supposed to receive," said PF&R Public Information Officer James Ziegler. "Instead this amazing couple chose to give. Their donation will go a long way toward making the holidays brighter for dozens of needy Portland kids."
Portland Fire & Rescue thanks Glen and Tiffany Boyd for their generous donation and wishes them the best in their new life together.
Portland firefighters will be collecting new, unwrapped toys at all Portland-area fire stations now through December 23rd for kids in our community. Founded in 1914, PF&R's Toy N Joy Makers gave a total of 67,856 toys to less-fortunate families in 2009. You can learn more about Toy N Joy Makers by visiting http://www.toynjoymakers.org.
