The City of Portland's Fire and Police Chiefs will be showing their support for the Salvation Army in a Celebrity Bell Ringing Challenge!  Today, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, Fire Chief John Klum and Police Chief Mike Reese will be ringing next to each other in front of the downtown Nordstrom store to see who can fill their kettle with more money.
 
Portland Fire & Rescue encourages citizens to stop by the downtown Nordstrom store, specifically the corner of Broadway and Yamhill, where Chief John Klum will be (hint, hint!), and drop a few coins or dollars into the kettle you want to support!
 
Below is a line-up of activities, dates, and times when Portland firefighters will be out in the downtown Portland area ringing bells for this worthy cause. 

December 13, 11:00 – 1:00
What:  Competitive bell ringing challenge between Fire Chief John Klum and Police Chief Mike Reese
Location:  SW Broadway & Yamhill corner in front of Nordstrom

December 15 & 16, 11:00 – 1:00
Firefighters will be ringing bells and collecting money at both SW Broadway entrances of Nordstrom

December 21, 10:00 – 2:00
What:  PF&R will have a fire truck in Pioneer Courthouse Square with its aerial ladder fully extended into the air over the square.  Firefighters will be ringing bells and collecting money in the square.
Location:  Pioneer Courthouse Square, Morrison Corner 

The money raised each year in the Red Kettle Campaign goes directly to the Salvation Army's 10 social service centers and programs in the Metro area which serve everyone from babies to seniors.  More than 60% of all funds raised by the Salvation Army during the year come during the last quarter of the year, primarily through these kettle efforts.  Last year's Red Kettle Campaign raised over $600,000 in the Portland-Metro area.
