NEWS RELEASE 03/13/11: Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to Residential Fire

March 13, 2011

8:32 PM

At approximately 6:13 pm today, Portland firefighters responded to a house fire at 9307 SE Grant Street #5. Firefighters arrived and found fire in the kitchen of a 1 and 1/2 story house. Thanks to the efficient work of firefighters the fire was extinguished within minutes.

Two adults and five children were displaced by the fire but no one was injured. One pet (a dog) was found and brought safely from the structure. The house will be uninhabitable until repairs are made. Red cross has been called to assist one adult with shelter (everyone else will stay with friends or family).

Fire investigators determined that this fire was caused by a grease in a pan left unattended on the stove. Damage estimates aren't yet available. Portland Fire & Rescue reminds everyone to use care when cooking, especially when children are present.
