Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to Fire in Vacant Golf Range on NE 82nd Avenue
At 6:25 pm, firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a commercial structure fire at NE 82nd Avenue and Siskiyou Street. Responding crews reported seeing flames from the fire from several blocks away.
Initial crews had to force entry into a gate before attacking the fire that was confined to the south side of a vacant golf driving range. Due to the amount of fire, the size of the structure, and the fact that the building was abandoned, the initial fire attack strategy was defensive. A defensive strategy is when fire crews attack the fire utilizing large, strategically placed exterior fire streams to first reduce fire extensions and then quickly bring the fire under control.
The first crews arrived at 6:28 pm, only three minutes after being dispatched, and the fire crews had the fire under control less than twelve minutes after arriving.
Fire investigators are currently on scene determining the fire's cause and damage estimates.
