The 8th Annual Fogarty Soccer Clinic was held at Portland Lutheran School in SE Portland this past week. Portland Firefighters Association, Local 43 has been a key sponsor over the years and firefighters from Portland Fire & Rescue's Station 29 were on hand with a barbeque trailer to provide lunch for all three days to the campers and the coaches who consisted mainly of volunteer high school and college students.
Retired Firefighter Mike Fogarty has been putting on this free community soccer clinic for eight years now. This year’s turn out was larger then expected. With nearly 500 participants ranging from 3-years old up to 8th grade, the fields were filled with youth of all ages. With helpful donations from numerous organizations, each participant received a shirt, ball, shin guards, a water bottle, team picture, snacks, a bible and a community barbeque filled with burgers, hotdogs and snacks on the last day of the clinic which is also open to the public. Over 1,000 people attended the community barbeque.
