On July 6th, Station 24 invited the soccer team that they coached during the month of June and during the Refugee World Cup in early July to the station for dinner. Firefighters got to know their players well on the soccer field while serving as coaches to these local high school students from Jefferson and Roosevelt High Schools. This was an opportunity for the students to see where their coaches work and what they do each day.
Accorording to firefighter Andy Ponce, "We wanted the kids to see our station and answer some of their questions about being a firefighter." Station 24 C-shifters cooked up some burgers and had some good old firehouse fun hosting a foosball tournament. Alex Vidales, who coordinated the tournament from the Parks Bureau, also joined firefighters and players for dinner. A good time was had by all and Station 24 firefighters are hopeful that some of their players might consider their profession as a future career.
