Lost in the Line of Duty
August 21, 1881
James Reed
Reed collapsed and died of an apparent heart attack after pulling a fire engine (hand pulled type) to a fire. His death occurred at the hospital on August 21, 1881. Reed’s residence was at the firehouse of Protection Engine Company #4 at 1233 SW 1st Avenue.
Reed is buried at the Lone Fir Cemetery.
