A youth Summer Camp at Cesar Chavez School received a special treat this afternoon! Portland Fire & Rescue Lieutenant Alan and Firefighters Kelly, Paul, and Casey gave middle school students a hands-on tour of Engine 26.
Summer campers were able to familiarize themselves with the apparatus and firefighting equipment. Lieutenant Alan even explained the special features of the engine and treated a volunteer with the opportunity to “suit up” in a air pack and turnout jacket!
The firefighters answered questions, talked about the job of firefighting, reinforced that home fire safety is a personal responsibility, and encouraged the youth to make sure smoke alarms are installed inside each bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on each level of their home.
Nice job to Lieutenant Alan and Firefighters Kelly, Paul, and Casey for the wonderful tour they gave and for their ongoing involvement in the North Portland community.
