Overnight, Portland Fire & Rescue responded to reports of a garage on fire at 422 N.E. 28th Avenue. Firefighters from Portland Fire (Lloyd Center) Station 13 arrived on scene at 12:39 am to find a fully involved detached garage on fire. The garage was so close the adjacent home that the eaves of the home were starting to catch fire as crews arrived.
"Our goal was to stop this fire from spreading to the house," said Portland Fire Lieutenant Erica Nelson.
Neighbors told firefighters that they thought the house was occupied so firefighters quickly searched the home to see if anyone was inside. Firefighters found no one home at the time, but did observe possible signs of transient use of the house and garage.
Firefighters made an aggressive attack to extinguish the blaze and save the adjacent home. Due to their firefighting efforts, the home was spared from significant damage. The fire was brought under control at 12:54 am.
Fire investigators are on scene working to determine what started the fire. No fire cause or damage estimates are available at this time.
