University of Portland Student who Collapsed on Basketball Court Upgraded to Serious Condition -- The 19-year-old University of Portland student who collapsed on an outdoor basketball court Friday afternoon has been upgraded to serious condition.

Aaron Meyers was getting ready to play basketball when witnesses said he shook and fell, said Paul Corah, a spokesman for Portland Fire & Rescue. Emergency crews were called to the campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., just before 3:30 p.m. and found security officials preparing to use a defibrillator on Meyers, who was not breathing.

Firefighters took over resuscitation efforts and spent about 35 minutes working on Meyers before getting his heart beating again -- shocking his heart a total of six times, Corah said.

Meyers was taken to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center, where he was listed in serious condition today.
