April 9, 2012 -- On April 2, 2012, representatives from the Rose Festival presented Fire Commissioner Randy Leonard and Portland Fire & Rescue Fire Chief John Klum and Fire Marshal Erin Janssens a check for $2,200, the proceeds of a charity gold tournament.
The charity golf tournament was held on September 30, 2011 at the Heron Lakes Golf Course in North Portland. Teams of off-duty firefighters played 18 holes to help raise awareness and funds for the Portland Rose Festival Foundation and the David Campbell Memorial Association. The David Campbell Memorial Association honors Portland Fire & Rescue firefighters who have fallen in the line of duty.
Big thanks to the Rose Festival and golf enthusiasts for contributing to the cause of building a David Campbell Memorial. They have supported the cause two years in a row, and this year's contribution beat last year's by almost $400!
The funding will be instrumental in getting the David Campbell Memorial built at the east end of the Hawthorne Bridge along the Eastbank Esplanade.
