Fire companies worked through increasing midday heat to extinguish a room and contents fire early this afternoon. Engine Company 5 (Hillsdale) arrived first on scene and reported the one-story home as "fully charged" with smoke. Firefighters forced entry into the front door and advanced with a hose line to the seat of the fire in the first floor front bedroom. Additional crews searched the home and confirmed that no persons or animals were present. A secondary search was performed and again no person or animal was found. Neighbors reported to firefighters that the residents of the home are away from town, still, a through primary and secondary search of the home was performed to ensure no life was threatened.
Fire did not extend into the attic or the basement of the structure. No adjacent structures were involved. Once the fire was extinguished, crews began ventilation of the home, removing smoke and introducing fresh air into the structure. A fire investigator was called to the scene and is working to determine the cause of the fire and resulting damage. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported as a result of this fire.
