Portland Firefighters Raise $2,100 for Cancer Research at Leukemia/Lymphoma Gala

The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Gala of Hope was held Thursday, June 14th at the Oregon Convention Center.  Various organizations, including Portland Fire & Rescue, donated top notch items for a live and silent auction.  The event capped off a 10-week fundraising effort for cancer research.

Portland Fire & Rescue donated a Mexican-style dinner for 12 prepared by one of our best firefighter cooks. It will be held at the Historic Belmont Firehouse and includes a tour of the fire museum. Lieutenant Rich Tyler and Fire Inspector Ron Rouse were on hand to encourage bids on the item offered by Portland Fire.  When all was said and done, the item raised $2,100 - a new PF&R record and all for a great cause.  Approximately 600 people attended the fundraising gala.

Although someone new is diagnosed with a blood cancer every four minutes, there is a great hope for the future.  LLS is the world's largest national voluntary health organization dedicated to curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and to improving the quality of life of patients and families.  LLS funds lifesaving blood cancer research around the world and provides free information and support services.
