NEWS RELEASE 11/12/12: Portland Fire & Rescue on the Scene of Overturned Fuel Tanker Blocking I-205 Southbound
A large tanker truck, carrying over 1500 gallons of gasoline and diesel fuel, overturned early this morning and is now resting on its side blocking all southbound lanes of I-205 near Airport Way.
A small amount of fuel is leaked from the trucks 'saddle' tanks; the larger tanks containing all of the fuel being transported remain intact. Crews from Portland Fire Station 12 (Sandy Blvd.), and a Battalion Chief, will remain on scene until the incident is resolved. Portland Fire and Rescue is working with representatives from the fuel company to right the truck so that it can be safely removed from the Interstate.
All traffic is being routed away from the scene and it is unknown when the southbound lanes of I-205 will reopen.
The driver of the truck was not hurt and no other injuries are reported as a result of this single vehicle accident. Cause has not been determined.
