NEWS RELEASE 11/14/12: Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to a Broken Gas Line (4th & Lincoln)
This morning at 8:30 am Portland Fire crews were called to the intersection of 4th Ave. and Lincoln Street. A construction company had reportedly damaged a natural gas line near the sidewalk while digging. Firefighters arrived and found that a gas line had indeed been damaged.
NW Natural was called to deal with the broken line, while firefighters checked nearby buildings for gas. Traffic in all directions, at the intersection of 4th and Lincoln, was rerouted while crews worked to control the situation. The 4th Ave. off-ramp was also closed for a time. NW Natural arrived and found that a 2" gas line had been damaged.
Firefighters stood by for safety while the line was repaired by the NW Natural team. The incident was resolved by 10:15 am and traffic returned to normal. No injury or illness was associated with this incident.
