NEWS RELEASE 1/26/13: Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to Fire in SE Portland Home
Portland Fire and Rescue responded this evening to a room and contents fire in a small one-story residence. Initial reports to incident command indicated that two residents live in the home and bystanders were uncertain if they were home at the time of the fire.
Crews from Engine 19 (Mt. Tabor) made entry into the home and initiated concurrent fire attack and primary search. Upon entry into the fire building firefighters encountered heavy smoke but minimal fire. The fire was contained to the room of origin and following primary and secondary search it was determined that no occupants were present.
Fire doubles in size every minute--containment of fire to the room of origin is the result of appropriate resources and short arrival times. On this fire, 12 firefighters were on scene less than 5 minutes from the time of dispatch.
A fire investigator has been called to the scene to determine fire cause. No injuries are reported as a result of this fire. This release will be updated with estimated damages and cause as each become available.
