At 5:04 am, dispatchers started fire crew to a report that burning vegetation was extending into a nearby structure (possibly two) at Se 104th Ave and Mitchell St.
Upon arrival, Engine 11 (Lents) encountered a fully involved detached garage on fire, with potential fire exposure to two adjacent homes. It was unclear whether smoke issuing from vents on the structures was from actual fire or ambient smoke, so crews made access to the homes to investigate. The vast majority of fire damage was on the exterior of the homes and a fence.
"With the potential for there to be up to three buildings involved our crews were going to be very busy with firefighting efforts. A neighbor across the street went well above and beyond by waking the occupants of one of the houses that was on fire." said Battalion Chief Rich Stenhouse. This along with our quick response times definitely contributed to there being no injuries.
Currently the fire cause is undetermined with a PF&R Investigator currently on-scene working. Damage to each home was $5,000, the garage was a total loss estimated at $5,000 and damages to the fence was listed at approximately $1,000.
