Portland Fire & Rescue crews were sent to a SE Portland neighborhood on report that a detached garage fire was extending to a home. When engine 20 arrived they found a detached garage was fully involved with fire and extending to more than one home in close vicinity. A PF&R Battalion Chief arrived shortly after, recognized the threat to nearby homes and upgraded the fire response to a second alarm which added additional truck engine companies to respond to the scene. Truck crews were used to cut holes in the roof to assist the efforts of crews inside attempting to extinguish the house fires. Both homes were occupied at the time this fire began but were able to evacuate without injury. Fire crews were able to extinguish the fires before they were able to spread to any additional homes. Arson investigators are at the scene and beginning their investigation of the possible cause.
