NEWS RELEASE 6/24/13: Residential Fire and Natural Gas Leaks Keep PF&F Crews Busy in North/Northeast Portland

At 11:06 PM fire crews were distpatched to reports of a house fire with indications from neighbors that there may have been a 50 year old female still inside the home. Engine 8 and Truck 8 arrived minutes later and initiated a search and rescue plan. It was discovered shortly after that the woman was safe and outside of the structure. Fire crews then began to aggressively attack the fire. Engine 8 went interior with hoselines to knock down the fire, while Truck 8 ventilated the roof to release the superheated gasses and to make the interior more tenable for possible survivors.

The occupant of the home was evaluated by a Firemedic and was determined to be uninjured.

PF&R Investigators are currently on-scene working. Fire cause and damage estimates will be released as soon as they become available.

Approximately (1) minute after dispatching the residential fire, additional fire crews were sent to NE MLK and Fremont to reports of a natural gas leak caused by a motorcycle striking a gas line. The home closest to the ruptured line was evacuated as a precaution and nearby structures were monitored to ensure a safe atmosphere.

Fire crews assisted NW Natural by providing charged hoselines as protection as the NW Natural Gas Technicians worked to stop the flow of gas. The leak was stopped at 11:30 PM.
