NEWS RELEASE 7/21/13: Portland Fire & Rescue Responds to Wildland Fire in NE Portland

At 4:51pm Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a brush fire at 6328 NE Columbia Blvd. The crew from Engine 14 (Alberta Park) arrived and called for additional resources because of the size of the fire and delayed access due to locked gates. Fire crews quickly realized that what was actually burning was roughly 50 square feet of railroad ties and other debris. Brush Units 22 (St. Johns) and 29 (Powellhurst) responded to the scene and were well suited for this type of incident. Brush units are smaller than fire engines and allow crews to quickly access fires on narrow roads. Fire crews knocked down the flames and remained on scene extinguishing hot spots.

The fire was brought under control at 5:26pm and there were no injuries reported. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time. More information will be given as it becomes available.
