NEWS RELEASE 7/30/13: Portland Fire & Rescue on Scene of Multiple Downed Power Line and Transformers in NW Neighborhood
At 11:36am Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to the scene of a power line accident at NW 14th and Marshall. Witnesses at the scene said a chemical truck trying to pull out of the way of a tanker truck accidentally hit a "guide line" connected to a power pole; when the truck pulled forward the line brought down one pole and it's lines and then created a domino effect on the surrounding poles and lines. Crews arrived to find a tanker truck, a chemical truck and two smaller vehicles draped in power lines and one vehicle completely crushed by a transformer. Once crews identified that their were no injured or trapped victims in the area, they shut down pedestrian, vehicle and light rail traffic to prevent any contact with the power lines. PGE crews were called to the scene and shut off power to the lines. Power is affected in the immediate area of the accident and PGE officials are predicting that power would be restored by this evening. 14th Ave is currently closed between Nw Marshall and Northrup while PGE crews continue to clear the downed lines and poles.
