NEWS RELEASE 8/3/13: Portland Fire &Rescue Responds to Two Residential Fires

Firefighters responded to two house fires shortly after 1 o'clock this afternoon.

Firefighters from Station 24 arrived first to a fire on 27 N. Williams Street. Starting in a clothes drier, the fire did not extend beyond the appliance and firefighters extinguished the fire within two minutes of their arrival.

Just as firefighters arrived to the Williams fire, emergency dispatch tapped out a fire on 1011 SE Nehalem Street. The first due Engine 20 (Sellwood) found residents with a garden hose attempting to extinguish the fire from outside the building.

Adding urgency to the incident, firefighters discovered a resident who reentered the building to gather personal belongings on the second floor. The occupant was located and escorted from the residence without injury. Firefighters then began to extinguish the balance of the fire.

Investigators are on the scene of both fires working to determine cause. No injuries to civilians or firefighters are reported as a result of either incident. Damage estimates will be made available as they are completed.
