NEWS RELEASE 8/20/13: Portland Fire & Rescue at Scene of NW Portland Apartment Fire - Injuries Reported

Portland Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched to reports of an apartment fire today at 2:30pm at 920 NW Kearney in the Pearl District. When firefighters arrived to the four story apartment building they found Portland Police Officers outside of the affected room trying to make entry; smoke was pouring out of the front door of the apartment and screams could be heard coming from inside. Firefighters forced the door open and retrieved two adult males ages 40-50 and one dog. Firefighters reported that there was one resident with burn injuries and smoke inhalation and one resident with smoke inhalation injuries only. Both patient s were transported to Emanuel Hospital. The dog was uninjured. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the fire which appeared to be limited to the kitchen area of the apartment. Traffic was affected on NW Johnson and NW 9th but is  clear at this time. Fire investigators are at the scene attempting to determine a cause. Damage assessment and cause will be updated when available.
