NEWS RELEASE 9/28/13: PF&R Responds to Commercial Fire at Portland Art Museum
At 5:28pm Portland Fire & Rescue responded to reports of dark smoke inside the Portland Art Museum at 1219 SW Park Ave. When fire crews arrived they assisted with evacuating people from the immediate area and began their investigation for the source of the smoke. There was light smoke inside the grand ballroom and it was discovered that an electrical box used for stage lighting was the source. Power was shut off to the electrical equipment and fire crews used carbon dioxide extinguishers on the remaining fire.
The incident was brought under control at 5:38pm. The fire did not extend beyond the electrical box. The cause is unspecified electrical failure and there is no damage estimate at this time. Further information will be given as it is made available.
