NEWS RELEASE 10/13/13: PF&R Fights Early Morning Blaze, Three Dogs Missing
Firefighters are searching for three dogs after an early morning fire destroys home.
Less than three minutes after crews arrived a flashover engulfed the entire home in flames.
Because the volume of fire created an unsafe atmosphere inside the home, crews spent almost twenty minutes attacking the fire from outside before firefighters could enter to fully extinguish the blaze. Once firefighters entered, a primary search to locate the dogs was initiated.
Loaded weapons were among many hazards faced by firefighters. Battalion Chief Bob Zavodsky warned crews that extensive remodeling created a "structure within a structure." False floors and several gas tanks were present.
The fire was brought under control and recalled at 4:03 am. A fire investigator is now on scene.
Damage estimates and a determination of cause will be available upon completion of the investigation.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters are reported as a result of this fire.
