This weekend marks the 13th annual Portland Metro Fire Camp (PMFC) hosted by Portland Fire & Rescue.  This is the second of two opportunities held this summer, the first of which was hosted by Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue in July. This makes PMFC the 2nd longest running female focused fire camp in the nation and has included female firefighter instructors from as far as Georgia.  This two day “hands-on” event introduces young women (ages 16 to 21) to many aspects of firefighting and emergency services plus exposure to careers that are historically male dominated. The goal of the PMFC is to empower young women to seek out non-traditional careers that otherwise are limited in equitable exposure.

If Media would like photo/video opportunities and possible hands-on interaction for this event, there will be a PIO available on site Sunday, August 29th from 10:30 am to 11:30.  The event is hosted at Portland Fire Station 2 (4800 NE 122nd Ave.) and the PIO will be Lt. Irene Concepcion-Sestric (503) 313-8672.
