Just before 11:30 pm Christmas Eve, Portland Fire & Rescue responded to a report of a residential fire at 6405 N Greeley.  On arrival, crews found smoke issuing from a single-story residence. The first Engine company forced the front door to attack the fire and do a search for victims. When crews entered the structure, the fire began showing from a window at the back of the residence. Advancing the hose lines to the fire was challenging due to the amount of clutter inside this home. The fire burned a hole in the floor of the kitchen which added to the dangers of fighting this fire. When the fire attack team reached the fire, they were able to extinguish it quickly.

While crews were doing their initial search of the structure they found one elderly female occupant that was deceased in one of the back rooms of the structure.  Fire investigators were called and began their scene investigation.  The fire is still under investigation, they did find it to be accidental but a specific cause has not been determined at this time.

Safety Reminder

Check your smoke detectors regularly and keep your hallways, stairways, and exits clear of debris.
