Commercial fire at 37th and Hawthorne (Photo)

At 3:13 AM, crews from Portland Fire & Rescue were called to 37th and Hawthorne on a report of a commercial fire. The first arriving company reported seeing smoke from the front door of a one-story building as police were requested for traffic control.
Once inside, crews encountered multiple hot spots and a basement not affected by the fire. Crews were also able to ladder the roof to look for a possible extension of the fire spread.
As crews fought the fire from inside, a 2nd alarm was called to assist crews on site with fire extinguishment.
The fire was extinguished, the incident was recalled at approximately 4:30 AM with crews remaining on the scene, and 2nd alarm companies returned to quarters.
This fire is currently under investigation by the Portland Fire Investigations Unit.
