Warblers and rabbits and elk, oh my!

These are just a few of the animals found during the first BioBlitz in Portland’s Forest park.

They are just a few of the animals found during the first BioBlitz in Portland’s Forest Park.

A Bioblitz is a 24-hour study led by experts to survey a designated piece of land and document its wildlife.

Organized and funded by Portland Parks & Recreation, Portland's first-ever BioBlitz was spearheaded by John Deshler, the City of Portland’s wildlife expert.

Deshler, with a team of 31 wildlife experts and 144 eager volunteers, set out for their 24-hour excursion of the beautiful 5,100-acre Forest Park.  Together, they found a total of 248 species, including 99 animals and 148 different types of insects.

Portland's BioBlitz will be featured on Oregon Public Broadcasting's Oregon Field Guide, and is available online for viewing as well!

Macdonald West brings affordable homes to Old Town

Nick was pleased to join the Macdonald Center for the grand opening of their new seven story building, Macdonald West.

December 7, 2012

Yesterday, the Macdonald Center celebrated the grand opening of their new seven story building, Macdonald West.

The Macdonald Center has been serving neighbors in the Old Town/China Town neighborhood since 1999.  The Center helps low-income families and older adults join together to build connections and a sense of community.

The new Macdonald West building includes 42 affordable homes for low-income people and families.  The building also houses a "visiting program" where residents can enjoy visits from college students and other volunteers.

The Portland Housing Bureau was proud to invest $100,000 in Tax Increment Financing to help bring these new, affordable homes to Old Town.

For more information about Macdonald West or the Macdonald Center, call (503) 222-5720 x7445 or visit the Macdonald Center’s website.
