Happy Earth Day

Today is Earth Day!

April 22, 2016

Today is Earth Day! 192 countries around the world celebrate Earth’s incredible biodiversity, and focus on shared efforts to protect the environment.

Our two bureaus, the Bureau of Environmental Services (BES) and the Portland Water Bureau (PWB), are dedicated to preserving the health of our city and our valued green spaces.

Over the last 20 years, BES’ Watershed Revegetation Program in the Columbia Slough has planted more than one million native trees and shrubs in Portland watersheds! It’s one of many projects that BES does around our community to promote healthy ecosystems and habitat conservation.

The PWB focuses on delivering safe and reliable drinking water every day through renewable energy. They also have great tips for you and your family to save water during the upcoming warm summer months and help preserve our natural resources as our city continues to grow.

Thank you to the bureaus for their hard work, and Happy Earth Day to everyone!
