Venture Portland Awards $34,250 in Neighborhood Business District Grants

November 1, 2016

This week, Venture Portland (VP) awarded $34,250 to fund twelve upcoming projects city wide.

Small businesses are the backbone of our community. They bring character and jobs to our neighborhoods, and Nick is proud to serve as Council Liaison to Venture Portland.

VP focuses on investing in the smart, strategic growth of our neighborhood small business districts. Projects funded by the grants range from retail-focused holiday events to dynamic district websites and maps.

When you shop local, $68 of every $100 spent stays in our local economy. Check out the complete list of activities here and support your local small businesses!

November 2, 2016

Today, Council unanimously approved a resolution introduced by Commissioner Fish that resumes the sale of Terminal 1 North, prime industrial land in Northwest Portland owned by the Bureau of Environmental Services.

This action was supported by a diverse group of stakeholders, including the Citizens’ Utility Board of Oregon, the Portland Utility Board, the Portland Business Alliance, neighborhood associations, and community members across the city.

Proceeds from the sale will be returned to ratepayers and used to stabilize future utility rates.

Moving forward, Nick will continue working with the community and City Council to fund and implement creative and humane solutions to our housing crisis.

Community Vision calls for Portland Artists

November 8, 2016

Community Vision is now accepting art submissions for its inaugural exhibition in a new gallery space at the Seven Corners Community Collaborative.

Community Vision empowers people with disabilities to live, work and thrive in the community of their choice.

For the exhibition, they are seeking submissions from artists experiencing a disability who paint, take photographs, screen-print, draw, create multi-media pieces, or work in other visual media.

With the help from the Regional Arts and Culture Council, the new gallery space will feature new artists quarterly.

Find out more about submission details and the new gallery space here. Submit your information and art to awoods@cvision.org by December 15, 2016.

Veterans Day Proclamation

November 9, 2016

Today, City Council proclaimed Veterans Day as “a day to express our gratitude to our veterans and citizens serving in the United States military.”

On Veterans Day – and every day – we thank the men and women whose service protects our freedoms and honors our country.

This Friday, join Nick at the 42nd Annual Ross Hollywood Chapel Veterans Day Parade. He will march alongside the City’s Veterans Empowerment Team and a number of other community groups.

Started by veteran Vernon E. Ross, the parade is Portland’s only Veterans Day parade celebration! The parade will start at 9:30am at NE 40th and Tillamook, and continues down NE Sandy Boulevard to the Ross Hollywood Chapel.

We also invite you to stop by the City Hall Atrium and explore a display honoring City veterans and their diverse experiences in the military branches.
