New East Portland playgrounds open

Two new Portland Parks & Recreation outdoor playgrounds in East Portalnd are now open!

November 1, 2012

Two new Portland Parks & Recreation outdoor playgrounds in East Portland are now open!

Brand new equipment is installed and ready for play at East Holladay Park and East Portland Community Center.

These new playgrounds are part of our E205 initiative, which brings parks improvements to underserved neighborhoods in East Portland.  40% of Portland families with children live in East Portland neighborhoods, but there are fewer parks for them to enjoy.

The new playgrounds include two new play structures, swings, a slide, see-saws, and other play equipment on top of a bark surface.

With the additional support from our private partnerships, other improvements have been made to other parks around Portland, including community gardens, better lighting, and playgrounds.

Community says: we love Portland Parks & Recreation

The City Auditor has released the 22nd Annual Community Survey - Portland Parks & Recreation facilities recieve high rankings

November 1, 2012

The City Auditor has released the 22nd Annual Community Survey results.

We are pleased to report that the community continues to value and use our Gold Medal parks system.

  • 84% gave parks a positive rating (very good or good)
  • 72% gave recreation services a positive rating
  • 42% visit a City park at least once a week

Despite four years of budget cuts, the public continues to give Portland Parks & Recreation high marks.

Congratulations to the PP&R team for their outstanding work!

Proud Ground & CCLT Join Forces

Proud Ground and the Clackamas Community Land Trust (CCLT) have made the decision to integrate their operations.

November 2, 2012

Great news for first-time homebuyers in the metro area!

After a long journey of exploration, and a vote by Clackamas Community Land Trust (CCLT) members, our community partner, Proud Ground and the CCLT have made the decision to integrate their operations.

Proud Ground will now serve low-income, first-time home buyers in Multnomah, Washington and Clackamas counties with affordable home buying opportunities and housing development services.

Proud Ground will remain based in Portland, with home buyer education and counseling services dispersed throughout the region in local offices.

The two organizations believe that this step forward will ensure greater stability, more efficient and effective services, and provide a constant organization to serve first-time homebuyers in the Portland Metro area.

For more information, please visit the Proud Ground website.

Changing the world, one playground at a time

On Saturday, Nick was proud to join Mayor Adams, the Goldberg family, the Portland Parks & Recreation team, and community members to celebrate the grand opening of Harper's Playground.

On Saturday, Nick was proud to join Mayor Adams, the Goldberg family, the Portland Parks & Recreation team, and community members to celebrate the grand opening of Harper's Playground.

The Timbers Army and Portland Fire & Rescue also joined in the fun with a park barbecue and cupcakes for the children.

Hundreds of children and their families enjoyed the new swings, water feature, slides, and more.  The new playground, inspired by six-year-old Harper Goldberg, is completely accessible to children of all abilities.

We were thrilled to see the Goldberg family's dream become a reality.  Special thanks to everyone who joined us to celebrate Harper and her family!
