Park(ing) Day hits Portland

September 18, 2009

You may have noticed something a little different about your parking space this morning - green has taken over, at least for the day, as Oregon celebrates its second Park(ing) Day with miniparks across Portland and other cities around the state.

Park(ing) Day is a day-long event highlighting the region's parks, trails, and natural areas. The program is sponsored by Intertwine, a cooperative effort of City, County, and regional governments, along with environmental and land-use groups. Intertwine works to coordinate efforts to expand and enhance our regional system of parks, trails, and natural spaces.

Portland miniparks can be found outside Hotel Monaco (5th and Washington), the Bridgeport Brewpub (NW 13th and Marshall), Greenworks (2nd and Burnside), the Forest Park Conservancy (1505 NW 23rd), and in front of City Hall, at 1220 SW 5th Avenue.

Nick is visiting the Hotel Monaco minipark this morning to celebrate Park(ing) Day and talk about Intertwine, which he and Metro President David Bragdon introduced to the City Council in mid-July.

Thanks to the Economy League of Greater Philadelphia for the photo of this great minipark!
