Portland Housing Bureau contract with Portland Development Commission will provide lead hazard reduction for 125 Portland families
March 24, 2010
Last December we announced that the Porltand Housing Bureau (PHB) had received a $4 million Lead Hazard Demonstration Grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The Grant funding is to support lead hazard control programs in the Portland area. Since 1998, Portland's housing bureau has been awarded grants totaling $13 million for lead reduction.
Yesterday, Council approved a $1.5 million contract between PHB and the Portland Development Commission (PDC) to implement the grant. PDC will use he funds to reduce lead hazards in 125 homes belonging to low-income families with young children. The dangers of lead paint and leaded dust are particularly significant for young kids.
Thanks to PHB and PDC for their good work to help families in our community provide safer homes for their children.
