Vestal Community Garden in the spotlight
April 26, 2010
Portland's 33rd community garden opened March 12 at Vestal Elementary, near 82nd and Burnside in East Portland. David Ashton covered the celebration for East Portland News. "During brief remarks in which Commissioner Fish related stories about his school-age children - and his wife, a schoolteacher - he challenged the Vestal students to help prepare and maintain the garden," Ashton writes.
"A community garden not only helps create a healthy school," Nick told the Vestal students, "but it helps build a healthy community by bringing people from all kinds of diverse backgrounds together."
