RAC in the national spotlight
July 20, 2010
The Council of Large Public Housing Authorities highlighted Portland's Resource Access Center (RAC) project in its recently-released "Public Housing Authoritis: Local Challenges. Innovative Solutions."
"Designed to focus on the most chronically homeless populations and streamline access to existing services, it is designed and developed to enhance neighborhood livability" the authors write. They note that the building will be LEED Platinum certified, producing 60% fewer emissions than a traditional structure, and praise its groundbreaking urban infill design, which includes an interior courtyard and internal waiting area.
Nick is quoted as well, saying that the RACC will "provide a front door to services that transition hundreds of people out of tents, doorways, and cars into safe and decent homes."
