Nick was excited to join Commissioner Randy Leonard for the official groundbreaking ceremony at PGE Park, which will debut as an MLS stadium next year, earlier this week.

The construction schedule, writes Geoffrey Arnold in this morning's Oregonian, calls for completion in time for the Timbers March 19 home opener. Just in case, says owner Merritt Paulson, the team is ready to play its first few games on the road.

"This is a soccer town," Nick said at the event. "At every level of soccer - from youth soccer, high school, to college soccer and now professional, we have a leadership position."
