Portland Parks & Recreation is offering some great events this month!

• Dig-it!: Join Parks City Nature staff and community partners to celebrate the beginning of planting season! For the 3rd Dig-it event, Parks has partnered with Neighborhood Tree Stewards Bryan Burch and Mark Wensel to plant a "learning landscape" at East Sylvan Middle School (1849 SW 58th.) Help us plant 16 trees and enjoy free coffee and snacks, gifts, prizes, and tree seedlings!

• Nighttime Hoots & Howls: Join a Parks Environmental Education Naturalist for a full moon hike! Discover the animals and birds active after dark and find out what makes them so unique. This family-friendly event will take place in four locations - Whitakes Ponds, Oaks Bottom, the Hoyt Arboretum, and Gabriel Park. Registration is required for this one, so call us soon at (503) 823-2525.

• South Portland Riverbank Partners Volunteer Open House: Find out about the many ways you, your family, or your workplace can volunteer with Parks' City Nature program to help keep our riverside parks healthy and beautiful for people and wildlife. Enjoy a free canoe tour or walking tour and free refreshments!

• Salmon in the City 2010: This free public events highlights recent innovations in ecologically-sustainable design and the latest research on urban stormwater runoff and the future of our salmon.
