Three times each year - Fall, Winter, Spring - the City Council checks in on the budget to see where savings have been achieved and where programs might need additional funding. It's called the Budget Monitoring Process (BuMP), and the Council uses it to make adjustments to the adopted annual budget.
This morning, the Council adopted the Winter BuMP budget adjustments. As part of the package, the Council supported funding for several important Parks & Recreation requests:
- $125,000 to build four new community gardens this year, bringing us closer to our goal of adding 1,000 new plots by the end of 2012
- $911,000 to address critical infrastructure maintenance needs at the Pittock Mansion, East Delta Park, Waterfront Park, and Forest Park
- $50,000 to support the Village Market at New Columbia; when it opens this Spring, the market will provide fresh, healthy, affordable food for the New Columbia community
