Your parks priorities in action

April 13, 2011

Earlier this week, Council heard the results of a recent survey asking Portlanders about their budget priorities.

Three findings stood out to us:

  • 68% of those surveyed think the City should focus its spending on parks in areas with the greatest need.
  • When asked which improvement they'd most like to see in their neighborhood park, more people said community gardens (16%) than any other single improvement.
  • In response to the same question 10% said more and better sports fields are their top choice.

We agree.

We're prioritizing park improvements in East Portland, which has long been underserved by parks facilities.

Through our Community Gardens Initiative, we're working to add 1,000 new plots by the end of the year.

And we're bringing new all-weather fields to athletes across Portland.
