Coming up in Lents - "Founders Day: A Celebration of Our Community"
August 18, 2011
Story by Sophia Kecskes
One of Nick's favorite things about his job is the many opportunities he has to interact with the community he serves. The people of Portland guide everything we do in our office, especially because our two bureaus, Housing and Parks, are particularly oriented around serving and helping Portlanders.
One of the most diverse areas of Portland is the Lents neighborhood. According to the 2010 Census, the dynamic Lents neighborhood is 60% White, 16% Latino, 14% Asian, and 4.5% African American. Each year, Lents celebrates its past with the Annual Lents Neighborhood Founders Day - in recognition of Lents' increasing cultural richness, this year the neighborhood will unveil a revamped event, Founders Day: A Celebration of Our Community.
Nick is very excited to join the Lents community this Sunday at the Founders Day celebration. In addition to the annual parade, the event will feature music and dance performances from Chinese, Mexican, Indonesian, and Russian groups. There will also be free food and lots of fun activities for kids and families.
The event begins at 3:30 with the parade and continues with other festivities at 4:30. We hope to see you there!
