Nick kicks off National Food Day in Portland
October 19, 2011
This morning, Nick had the honor of kicking off the first annual National Food Day in Portland with an official City proclamation. Food Day seeks to bring together Americans from all walks of life to promote healthy, affordable food produced in a sustainable, humane way.
We're very excited to highlight this new tradition. Helping Portlanders connect with fresh, healthy, affordable food is one of Nick's top priorities. Last year, we worked with the team at Parks to kick the junk food out of our rec centers and increase healthy food options at events in our parks, and our '1,000 Gardens' initiative will add 1,000 new community garden plots by the end of 2012, helping more Portlanders than ever before grow their own produce.
As part of this national movement, Portland is hosting dozens of events. Many are already underway, and there are lots more coming up in the next week. For a full list of events, visit the Food Day Oregon website. We hope you'll take part!
