Franklin High School Roundtable
April 17, 2012
Yesterday, Nick was pleased to join a group of students at Franklin High School for a roundtable discussion.
The roundtable is part of a series of meetings with local students, organized by our Multnomah Youth Commission liaison, Cleveland High School student Sophia Kecskes.
Franklin students were very engaged, sharing their perspective about local elections, budget challenges, and the cuts facing Portland Public Schools. Many students shared the fear that some of their favorite teachers may not be able to return next year.
Nick was impressed with the candor and thoughtfulness of the students’ comments and ideas. Additional roundtables are tentatively scheduled for Madison and Roosevelt High Schools later this spring.
The Multnomah Youth Commission (MYC) is a great way for young people in the community to learn more and get involved with local government. MYC is currently recruiting new members, ages 13-21, to serve on the Commission.
If you or a young person you know is interested in joining, visit MYC’s website for an application.
