Honoring Charles Jordan, a Portland Visionary
May 10, 2012

We’d like to share a story about our friend Charles Jordan, former Portland City Commissioner and Portland Parks & Recreation Director who was featured in The Skanner today.
Charles Jordan spent 10 years as Portland’s first African American City Commissioner, and 14 years as our Parks Director. Jordan changed Portland’s landscape - under his leadership, 44 new parks and natural areas were added to Portland’s parks system.
To commemorate his remarkable achievements, Portland City Council will vote on June 6 to rename University Park Community Center in his honor, to the Charles Jordan Community Center.
