Celebrating new life for Mark O. Hatfield Building

June 14, 2012

On June 7, Nick joined Central City Concern and community members in celebrating the grand re-opening of the Mark O. Hatfield Building.

The building was named for the late Oregon Senator Mark O. Hatfield, to honor his commitment to providing affordable homes to the community.

In today's Oregonian Molly Hottle profiled the grand re-opening, and shared the story of Portland Housing Bureau staff architect Nate McCoy, who worked on the renovations for the building.  Having lived in low-income housing himself in his youth, Nate quickly formed a passion for architecture and giving back to his community.  Nate received the Mark O. Hatfield Architectural Award in 2003, a scholarship to the University of Oregon's architecture school.  Last Thursday, his passion for architecture and giving back to the community came full circle.

Home to 106 alcohol and drug-free affordable homes, the City of Portland was proud to invest over $800,000 in federal Community Development Block Grant funds to support the renovation of this historic building.
