Two of our local non-profits partners have received grants this week to help our community’s most vulnerable - with a special focus on veterans and military families.

Our partner, 211Info, focuses on connecting the community with the social services and resources they need through their 211 call center. They receive over 120,000 phone calls per year from people looking for shelter, energy assistance, and social services.

Today, Executive Director Leisl Wendt announced a $162,000 award from Meyer Memorial Trust. The grant will help launch a new service for veterans, active duty military, and their spouses. The funds will also help 211 with their effort to expand to serve all areas of our state by the end of the year.

Transition Projects is a strong partner in our fight to end homelessness, focusing on serving the needs of people in our community who are transitioning from homelessness into safe, permanent homes. Transition Projects manages the day center and men’s shelter at the award-winning Bud Clark Commons.

Executive Director Doreen Binder announced today that Transition Projects is receiving a $453,143 grant under a joint initiative of the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Department of Health and Human Services.

The grant will fund a new project, "Oregon is Home," providing services to veterans and their families, including emergency housing assistance, legal assistance, counseling services, job and career counseling, and more.
